ChatGPT Images 2.5: What It Means for Your Marketing Bill
10 September 2026
OpenAI has released ChatGPT Images 2.5, an upgrade to the image generation model behind ChatGPT Images and the GPT-Image API. OpenAI says its image tools have already produced more than 3 billion images across the platform. The new version follows multi-step instructions more reliably, responds faster, and is better at keeping details consistent when you ask for repeated edits to the same image.
What it means for your hours. The old pain with AI image tools was the redo loop. You'd ask for a change, get something close but not right, ask again, and watch the image drift further from the brief with every attempt. That's expensive if you're paying a designer by the hour or by the job, and it's just as expensive if you're doing it yourself between site visits. The improvement here is that the model holds onto your original details across multiple edits, so fewer redo cycles.
A worked example. Say a kitchen fitting or shopfit business needs ten social posts a month showing finished jobs, plus the odd product image for a supplier catalogue. A freelance designer charging £40 to £60 a job for that volume is £400 to £600 a month before revisions. Two rounds of changes on half those jobs can easily add another day of back-and-forth emails. With a tool that keeps the same product, colour scheme or room layout consistent across edits, an owner or office manager can generate and adjust the image themselves in minutes, cutting both the spend and the waiting.
Where the risk sits. This is still a general-purpose image generator, not a specialist render tool. For technical drawings, planning submissions or anything that needs to be dimensionally accurate, keep a qualified person checking the output. Use it for marketing, socials, mood boards and internal sign-off images, not for anything that goes to a building control officer.
What to do this month
- Pick one recurring image job you currently pay for or dread doing yourself, such as social posts or catalogue shots.
- Run it through ChatGPT Images 2.5 and time how long it takes you to get something usable, including edits.
- Compare that time or cost against your last designer invoice or your own hourly rate.
- If it's faster or cheaper, move that one task over and keep the designer for anything technical.
