Google's Gemini Can Now Read Your Fine Print
2 October 2026
Google has rolled out a feature called Guided Vision inside Gemini Live, letting anyone point a phone camera at printed text and have it read and explained in real time. The Verge reported the rollout on 1 October 2026. It is aimed at helping people make sense of small print, whether that is a contract, an instruction manual, a label or a form that is hard to read properly on the move.
What it means for your hours
Most owners do not read every word of a hire agreement, insurance renewal or subcontractor terms sheet. There is rarely time, and six-point legal text is not built for a quick read in the van or on site. Guided Vision turns that into pointing a camera and getting a plain-English explanation, with no searching for the right clause and no typing out a question first.
Take a worked example. A site manager picks up a new plant hire contract, fourteen pages, dense print throughout. Reading it properly before signing usually means setting it aside until there is a quiet moment, which in practice often means it gets signed unread. With Guided Vision, the same manager can point the camera at the liability and damage clauses and get them explained on the spot, before the plant turns up and before anything is signed.
That matters for margin, not just time. A damage excess clause buried in small print can cost a firm hundreds of pounds after a minor scrape that would otherwise have been covered under the standard terms. Catching that clause before signing is worth a great deal more than catching it after a claim lands on the desk.
The same applies off-site. Insurance renewals, warranty booklets for new kit, and supplier terms and conditions all tend to arrive as dense documents nobody has time to read in full. A feature that reads and explains them on the spot turns a job that gets put off into a five-minute check.
What to do this month
- Try Guided Vision on one real document this week, such as a supplier contract, insurance renewal or equipment lease.
- Use it on-site for anything with legal small print, from hire agreements to warranty booklets.
- Treat the explanation as a first read, not a final one. For anything above a few thousand pounds in value, still get a second human read before signing.
None of this replaces proper legal advice on big contracts. But for the stack of smaller paperwork every owner signs without reading, a tool that explains it in plain English on the spot is worth five minutes of anyone's time.
